FRAMINGHAM: Joseph H. Haughey, 82, a resident of Framingham for many years and retired Framingham Public School educator and administrator, died Tuesday April 7, 2015 at Metrowest Medical Center in Framingham. He was the beloved husband of Helen A. (Barry) Haughey with whom he shared nearly 50 years of marriage. Born in Waltham, he was a son of the late William B. Haughey, Sr. and the late Elizabeth (O’Leary) Haughey. Raised in South Boston and Framingham, he was a graduate of Framingham High School with the class of 1951, and a proud Army veteran of the Korean War serving from 1951-1955. In 1961, Mr. Haughey was president of his graduating class at Worcester State College and went on to earn a Masters in Education from Framingham State College in 1966. Beginning in Ashland, his teaching and administrative career in Framingham spanned 35 years until his retirement in 1996. He was Principal at the former Barbieri Middle School, Director of Guidance, Director of Special Ed, and Vice Principal at Walsh Middle School. Mr. Haughey had a passion for singing and was a member of “The Sounds of Concord”, a barbershop chorus and a longtime active parishioner of St. Bridget’s Parish. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family at a summer home at Rocky Nook, Kingston, MA. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Beth E. McDonald & husband John of Sharon, Timothy J. Haughey of Merrimack, NH, Devin B. Haughey & wife Alisa of Milford and Bryan C. Haughey of Holliston; 3 grandchildren: Chelsey Haughey of Merrimack, NH and Dylan & Emma Haughey of Milford; his siblings: Nancy Pederzoli, Robert M. Haughey and Philip C. Haughey. He was the brother of the late: Betty Chiappini, William “Liam” Haughey and John “Jack” Haughey. Visiting hours are Friday, April 10 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Boyle Bros. Funeral Home, 173 Union Ave., Framingham. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday April 11 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bridget’s Church, 830 Worcester Rd., (Rte. 9 East) Framingham Centre. Interment will follow at Edgell Grove Cemetery, Grove St., Framingham. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in Joe’s name to: the Autism Resource Center of Central Mass, 71 Sterling St., West Boylston, MA. 01583.
