SHREWSBURY: Margaret A. Whalen, 97, a local resident for nearly 3 years, and a former lifelong resident of Maine, died Friday January 24, 2014 at Shrewsbury Crossings.

Born in Bangor, she was a daughter of the late Patrick E. and Sadie (Kennedy) Whalen. A graduate of Danforth High School in 1935, she earned her undergraduate degree at Colby College in 1939 and an advanced degree from Simmons College in Boston in 1944. Margaret was employed for many years as the state of Maine Librarian and Archivist in Augusta and was a life member of the American Historical Society as well as an avid reader.

She is survived by a sister, Mary Frances Whalen of Augusta Maine; a niece, Mary Ellen Logue and her husband Robert of Sutton; a grandnephew, Michael J. Whalen of Sutton and a grandniece, Christine E. Logue-Casali and her husband Dean of Framingham; and a great-grandniece, Eva Mei Casali. She was the sister of the late Patricia E. Cole.

Visiting hours are Wednesday, Jan. 29th from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Boyle Bros. Funeral Home, 173 Union Ave., Framingham. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, Jan. 30th at 9:00 am at St. Bridget’s Church, 830 Worcester Rd., Rte. 9 East, Framingham. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery in Bangor, Maine. Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations in Margaret’s name be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA. 01701.

Neil C. Carter of Natick died on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was eighty-nine years old.

Born in Lebanon, Missouri, son of the late Joseph & Bernys Carter, he was a 1943 graduate of Lebanon High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served our country proudly during World War II.

Mr. Carter was employed as an Electrical Engineer with Sylvania & GTE for thirty-six years, a Natick resident since 1958, a member of the First Congregational Church of Natick and the Aleppo Shrine of Boston.

Neil enjoyed mountain climbing, was a member of the 4000 foot club, jogging in 5 & 10K races, the Mt. Washington Road Race, music and dancing.

He was the devoted husband of Margaret K. (Tower) Carter with whom they shared sixty-two years of marriage. He was the loving father of Ian C. Carter of Natick, Janet K. Blanchard & her husband Nathan of Southboro & Scott C. Carter of Natick. Cherished grandfather of Amanda Huenefeld & her husband Lance of Millville, Alyssa Carter of Natick, Dominic D’Innocenzo of Hudson & Emily Carter of Framingham.

A Funeral Service will be held in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St., at Natick Common on Friday, January 31, 2014 @ Noon. Relatives & friends respectfully invited. Interment is private.

David E. Marr, 74, of Natick, passed on Saturday, January 25th, 2014, after a courageous, four-year battle with cancer. David was first and foremost a family man.

For forty years he was an attorney in Natick, MA. He was born in Quincy, MA, to the late Ralph G. Marr and Ethel Beals Marr. He graduated from West Bridgewater High School in 1957 and attended Colby College in Waterville, Maine, where he met his wife of 52 years, Patricia A. (Houghton) Marr.

After graduating from Colby College in 1961, he became a newspaper reporter for the Waterville Morning Sentinel. In 1963, he moved to Middletown, CT, to become the Assistant Director of Public Relations at Wesleyan University. While there, he obtained his Masters in English.

He received his JD from the University of Connecticut School of Law, while working part-time at the Hartford Courant and raising three children. He was Editor-in-Chief of the Connecticut Law Review and graduated summa cum laude in 1970, after which he joined Day, Berry & Howard in Hartford.

During these years he also taught law courses at a local community college and was an officer of the Colby Alumni Club. In 1973 he became corporate counsel at Honeywell Information Systems and moved to Natick. Soon thereafter, he left corporate law and established his own practice in general law, which allowed him to zealously represent his clients, sometimes for little pay but nearly always for great gratitude.

For many years he was the Chairman of the Natick Historic District Commission. He was very active in the Natick Bicentennial Celebration planning. He served as Director of the Natick Historical Society Museum and was a Natick Town Meeting member, member of the Natick Law Department Review Committee, and a member of the Regional Vocational-Technical High School Committee.

David will be best remembered by those who knew and loved him for his devotion to family and friends, dedication to his clients, love of golf, family camping, and Cape Breton. He is survived by his wife Patricia, daughter Bonnie Pomeroy of Dover, New Jersey, daughter Shelly McConnell and her husband Paul of West Kingston, Rhode Island, son Scott Marr and his wife Barbara of Falmouth, Maine, and eight wonderful grandchildren, Rachel, Becky, James, Emma, Hannah, Jacob, Kiersten, and Nathan, sister-in-law Nancy Marr of East Patchogue, New York, wife of his late brother Robert Marr, brother-in-law Charles (Ted) Houghton and his wife Elizabeth, of Charlton, Massachusetts, and Bert Hille of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and Carey Eggen of Worcester, Massachusetts, and a large and wonderful extended family.

Calling hours will be held 4-7p.m., Thursday, January 30th, at the John Everett Funeral Home, 4 Park Street, Natick, Massachusetts. A Celebration of His Life will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, January 31st, at the First Congregational Church, 2 East Central Street, Natick, Massachusetts.

FRAMINGHAM: Catherine (Zwick) Keefe, 87, resident of Framingham for 35 years, died Thursday Sept. 19, 2013. She was the wife of the late Richard F. Keefe who died in 1999.

Born in New Britain, Ct., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Catherine (Sanders) Zwick. A graduate of UVM with the class of 1946, Mrs. Keefe was primarily a homemaker for many years raising her 7 children. For 8 years, she worked for IDG in Framingham as an editor’s assistant, a job she greatly enjoyed. She also worked as a school crossing guard in Saxonville. A loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she is remembered for being an accomplished seamstress, playing the piano, and her love of the Berkshires.

She is survived by her children: Catherine K. Petrillo & her husband Joseph of Plymouth, Mary E. Keefe & her husband Martin Womer of Saco, Me., Richard F. Keefe, Jr. & wife Judy of Dunbar, NH, Sarah J. Engman & husband Carl of Florida, James M. Keefe & wife Lisa of Windham, Me., Patricia McBride & husband William of Ashland and Bridget Cammarata & husband Richard of Framingham; 13 grandchildren: Katie Petrillo, Joseph Petrillo, Jr., Hannah L. Morrill, Rachel Taylor, Richard Keefe, III, Melany Engman, Melissa Schmidt, Carl Engman, Jr., Christina Keefe, Joshua Keefe, Connor McBride, Richard J. Cammarata, III and Angela Cammarata; and 6 great grandchildren.

Helen M. (White) Kelley, 91, a lifelong resident of Framingham, died Wednesday September 18, 2013. She was the wife of the late James J. Kelley, Jr. who died in 1977.

Born in Framingham, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Helen (Hawes) White. A graduate of Framingham High School with the Class of 1940, she also studied at Regis College for two years. Mrs. Kelley worked for a time as a nurses assistant for the late Dr. Burke and at Bonds Drugstore in downtown Framingham. She was employed for 20 years as a book keeper at Sears in Natick before retiring. She enjoyed travel to Ireland, her friends from the “Brady Bunch” on John J. Brady Drive in Framingham, and especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children: James J. Kelley, III and his wife Susan of Cape Coral Florida, Helen F. Donnelly and her husband Mike of Framingham and Edward D. Kelley and his wife Elizabeth of Framingham; her grandchildren: Shawn and Patrick Kelley, Julie Donnelly and Annie Kelley and 3 great grandchildren. She was the grandmother of the late Michael James Donnelly.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday Sept. 21 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Chapel in St. Patrick’s Manor, 863 Central St., Framingham. Burial will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Fenwick St., Framingham. Marlboro, MA William M. Giannattasio (Bill), 87, of Marlboro, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 12th at his home surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Norma (Perry) Giannattasio of Marlboro. William was born in Boston, MA, son of the late Michael and Philomena (Staffia) Giannattasio. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was employed for many years as a supervisor with the Raytheon Company until his retirement. William enjoyed playing golf in his spare time but most of all cherished the time he shared with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be truly missed by them all. Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, William Giannattasio Jr and his wife Marcie of Lancaster; his daughter, Kristen Giannattasio and her husband Scott Simendinger of Framingham; and his two loving grandchildren, Samantha and Sawyer Giannattasio. He is also survived by his sister, Eleanor Campatelli of Woburn and his many relatives and friends. FRAMINGHAM: John G. Handrahan, 83, of Framingham died peacefully on February 14, 2014 at his home. He was born in Waltham on August 16, 1930 the son of the late John W. Handrahan and Mary E. (Murdock) Handrahan. John is survived by his wife Mary (Downing) Handrahan. Father of William Handrahan and his partner Eva of Maine; John Handrahan and his wife Meghan of Hopkinton and Susan Handrahan of Framingham. He is also survived by his four grandchildren Jason Handrahan and his wife Janice of Woonsocket, RI; Erica O’Mahony and her husband Bryan of Jamaica Plain; Zach Handrahan of Ashland and Olivia Handrahan of Hopkinton. Also surviving are his three great-granddaughters Julianna, Jillian and Jane. John and Mary would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this year on May 8th. John has been a resident of Framingham for over 58 years and spent his formative years in Wayland. He was a graduate of Wayland High School with the Class of 1948. John received his Associate of Science Degree from the Stockbridge School of Agriculture at the University of Massachusetts. He served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War followed by a career as a Service Manager at Commonwealth Gas Company for 35 years. While residing in Framingham since 1955 John served as a town meeting member and a member of the Framingham Parks Department. John was a hockey enthusiast and spent countless hours supporting his children and grandchildren in their many sports activities. He enjoyed many summers on Long Lake in Harrison, Maine with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His family will receive family and friends Monday, February 24, 2014 from 10:00 to 11:30 am followed by a service celebrating John’s life at 11:30 in the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the John C. Alyse E. (Olsen) Ferguson of Hopkinton, formerly of Natick, died on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute / Brigham & Women’s Hospital of Boston. She was sixty-two years old. Raised in Natick, she gradated from Marian High School, class of 1969. She continued her education with evening classes at Boston College and graduated first in her class, summa cum laude with a degree in accounting. She worked for over twenty years as an accountant with Data General Corp. of Westborough and Genzyme of Cambridge for five years. She was most recently the supervisor of the after school program with SMOC of Framingham, a job she truly loved. Alyse was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, word games, shopping and her beloved dog Casey. She was the loving daughter of Alice E. (Baker) Olsen of Natick & the late John L. Olsen. Devoted mother of Patrick J. Canastar, Jr. of Hopkinton. Long time wife of Donald F. Ferguson of Brighton and former wife of Patrick J. Canastar of Milford. Thomas James Karl Hoyland “Tom,Tommy”, age 45, of Natick Massachusetts entered into eternal rest , with his loving wife by his side in Beth Israel Hospital on February 26th after a courageous battle with cancer. Tom was born in Framingham, Massachusetts on July twenty-fourth 1969. His parents were Maryann Walsh and Raymond Hoyland. He was a graduate of the Fryeburg Academy in Maine. He was married to Josemeire Hoyland in 1993. He was a mortage broker for many years and went in to buying, rehabbing and selling properties. In 2009 Tom moved with his family to Brazil where he owned an american style restaurant and pizzaria called “Gringo’s” and moved back to the United States in 2011. He had quite an affinity for nature and camping and was a very pensive and curious individual. He loved spending time with his family, cooking as well as socializing and talking to people. He bonded with many people who enjoyed his charismatic and humorous personality, as well as his support and wisdom. His generosity and kindness will be remembered by those he loved as well as those who loved him. He was a faithful member of The Bridge Metrowest church in Natick. He adored his family and friends, and through them he will live on. He is survived by his wife Josemeire Martins Hoyland from Brazil and his two daughters Olivia Martins Hoyland (17) and Isabella Lois Martins Hoyland (7), his parents Raymond Hoyland (Harwich), Mary Ann Walsh (W. Yarmouth). His grand-parents (mothers side) Allan James Brown and Lois Brown from Natick, his uncles Jimmy Brown (Natick) and William Brown (Holliston) . Frederick Raymond Vitali, 88, a long-time resident of both Framingham and Natick, passed away February 15, 2014 at St. Patrick’s Manor in Framingham. Born in Framingham, he was the son of the late Aldo and Dora (Tognacci) Vitali. He is survived by his loving wife Mary A. (Pelullo) of 63 years. He was the beloved father of three children, Fred and his wife Martha of Holliston, Michael and his wife Nanette of Ashland, and Andrea (Upham) and her husband Chuck of Ashland, and beloved “Nonno” to six grandchildren, Victoria Vitali of Holliston, Dylan, Nicole and Marisa Vitali of Ashland, and Lauren and Travis Upham of Ashland. He is the brother of Irene Wachowicz of No. Providence, RI, Diana Carey of Framingham, and the late Norma Hutton of Framingham. He is also survived by many special nieces, nephews and dear friends. Fred grew up in the Coburnville section of Framingham and was a graduate of Framingham High School and Becker College and also attended Northeastern University. Immediately after graduating high school he joined the Army and served in WW II from 1943 to 1946. As a member of the 106th infantry he was deployed to the European Theatre and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Fred began his career as an Accountant at General Motors in Framingham. From GM he moved to Raytheon Company where he spent the remainder of his professional career as Contracts Manager of the Missile Systems Division. He was blessed with a wonderful staff, colleagues and friends with whom he worked until his retirement from Raytheon in 1987. Fred loved being surrounded by his family and friends. He was abundantly proud of his Italian heritage and loved all things Italian. Well known for his quick wit and lively personality, he was called upon to be the master of ceremonies for many a social gatherings. He enjoyed extensive international travel over the years for both business and pleasure. In his early retirement years he especially loved golfing, relaxing by the pool, Foxwoods excursions with his wife and visiting with old friends at The Columbus Club in Framingham, where Keno was an afternoon ritual. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral on Thursday, February 20th at 9:00 AM from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church in Natick at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours in the funeral home are Wednesday, February 19th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Interment St. Patrick Cemetery. FRAMINGHAM Alison G. (Pearlman) Reynard, 87, a resident of Framingham for over 45 years, died Thursday Feb. 20, 2014 at MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham. Born in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY (where she was known as “Goldie”), she was the daughter of the late Abe and Edith (Haimowitz) Pearlman. Mrs. Reynard graduated from Girl’s Commercial High School in Brooklyn and also took night classes in singing and clothing design. She worked several years for FW Woolworth Co. in downtown Framingham as a cashier where she was remembered for her friendly nature and gift of gab. She enjoyed gardening in her younger years, crossword puzzles, TV crime dramas, and ice skating competitions, but especially loved spending time with friends and family, including the family cat Cassie. She is survived by her son: James Christopher Reynard and daughter: Kathleen A. Reynard, both of Framingham and a brother: Herb Pearlman & his wife Julie of New York City. Alyse E. (Olsen) Ferguson of Hopkinton, formerly of Natick, died on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute / Brigham & Women’s Hospital of Boston. She was sixty-two years old. Raised in Natick, she gradated from Marian High School, class of 1969. She continued her education with evening classes at Boston College and graduated first in her class, summa cum laude with a degree in accounting. She worked for over twenty years as an accountant with Data General Corp. of Westborough and Genzyme of Cambridge for five years. She was most recently the supervisor of the after school program with SMOC of Framingham, a job she truly loved. Alyse was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, word games, shopping and her beloved dog Casey. She was the loving daughter of Alice E. (Baker) Olsen of Natick & the late John L. Olsen. Devoted mother of Patrick J. Canastar, Jr. of Hopkinton. Long time wife of Donald F. Ferguson of Brighton and former wife of Patrick J. Canastar of Milford. Caring sister of Valerie Collins & her husband Jim of AZ, Laureen Fisher & her husband Jim of Natick, John Olsen & his wife Patty of Maine, Cheryl Ebeling & her husband Al of Framingham, Pamela Whitelaw & her husband Patrick of Marlboro, Kenneth Olsen & his wife Jacqui of Medway, Lawrence Olsen of Maine, Erik Olsen & his wife Tracey of S. Framingham, MA: Rose M. McGahan, age 86, died peacefully on March 7, 2014. Nothing was more important to Rose than being a great wife and mother. She and her late husband John J. McGahan had four children and it was for John and her children, Karen, Leo, Andy and John Jr. that Rose lived her life. As her children had their own families, and after her husband’s death, Rose not only became a doting grandmother, but also helped raise Karen’s daughters, Katie and Jen, and Leo’s children, Kristen, Michelle and Michael. She was tireless in her daily efforts to make a house a home and make her children and grandchildren feel loved and cared for. Her spunk and energy was boundless. She was known for her warm smile and her warm chocolate chip cookies. Rose was born to Paul and Sarah (Bavisotto) Ambrosone, on November 4th 1927, in Corning NY. She was one of seven children. Although living at a distance as adults, her siblings were very important to her. After high school Rose worked as secretary at Corning Glass where she met John McGahan. In 1954 they were married and began their family on Grand Island, NY. For eight years before their retirement to Canandaigua NY, they lived in Annandale NJ, near son Andy and his family. Rose has lived the last twenty years with her daughter Karen in Framingham. Rose is predeceased by her siblings, Peter Ambrosone, Joseph Ambrosone, Stella Pesoli, Mike Ambrosone, half-brother Nicholas Ambrosone and by daughter-in-law Annie (Pallone) McGahan. Rose is survived by daughter Karen (Yang) Dawe and son-in-law Matt, son Leo McGahan and soon to be daughter-in-law Celeste, son Andy and daughter-in-law Debbie (Ziarniak) McGahan, and son John McGahan and daughter-in-law Elly Claus-McGahan. She is also survived by adoring grandchildren, their spouses and step-grandchildren: Katie Yang and Eric Madfis, Jen (Yang) Gulino and Andrew Gulino, Kristen, Michelle and Michael McGahan, Christina, Nicholas and Melissa McGahan, Ian and Kees McGahan, Garry, David, Amy and Marie Margolius and Meghan and Andrew Dawe. Rose is also survived by her sisters, Mary Kelly and Teresa Bothe and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations made to the American Cancer Society. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 13th at 4:15 pm at St. Stephen’s Church, 221 Concord Street, Framingham Mass.
