John D. Mahaney 64, well known Natick Attorney, died suddenly Wednesday August 8, 2012 at the Metro West Medical Center in Natick.

He was the beloved husband of Anne M. (Kenney) Mahaney with whom he shared 30 years of marriage.

Born in Natick and a lifelong resident he was the son of the late John Walter Mahaney Esq. and Mary M. (Neylon) Mahaney.

Mr. Mahaney attended St Patrick Grammar School in Natick, graduated from St John High School Shrewsbury, undergraduate degree from Regis University in Denver and received his Juris Doctor from Suffolk Law School in 1974.

In 1974 he was admitted to practice before the U.S. First District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Mr. Mahaney began as a trial lawyer as assistant District Attorney for Middlesex County, prosecuting cases in Cambridge Criminal sessions. He also provided criminal defense work for private and indigent cases in Middlesex County. John worked at Mahaney Law Offices since 1974 until his death providing legal defense in civil and criminal matters. He was also a visiting Lecturer at Harvard University Law School.

John was involved for many years in the Natick Community; he was a former Natick Selectman, Town Meeting member, Zoning Board member, member of the Natick Pension Board, Natick Democratic Committee, and a former member of the Natick Elks.

In addition to his involvement in the community and his profession, he was known for his sense of humor and his passion for golf. He was a member of Wellesley Country Club.

Most important of all to John was the time he spent with his family, and he was greatly anticipating the birth of his first grandchild who will be born in December.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his sons Brian P. Mahaney of Natick and Captain USAF John W. Mahaney and his wife Devon of Great Falls MT, and his daughter Danielle M. Mahaney of Natick, his brothers; Gerard M. Mahaney and his wife Siobhan of Natick, and Joseph M. Mahaney of Framingham, his sister Mary A. Mahaney of Dedham, and his many nieces and nephews, sister and brothers in law.

He was also the brother of the late Ann M. Tarasenko.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral on Tuesday August 14, at 9:00 A.M. from the John Everett and Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St Patrick’s Church at 10:00 A.M.

Visiting hours are Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M.

Interment St Patrick’s Cemetery.
