David E. Marr, 74, of Natick, passed on Saturday, January 25th, 2014, after a courageous, four-year battle with cancer. David was first and foremost a family man.

For forty years he was an attorney in Natick, MA. He was born in Quincy, MA, to the late Ralph G. Marr and Ethel Beals Marr. He graduated from West Bridgewater High School in 1957 and attended Colby College in Waterville, Maine, where he met his wife of 52 years, Patricia A. (Houghton) Marr.

After graduating from Colby College in 1961, he became a newspaper reporter for the Waterville Morning Sentinel. In 1963, he moved to Middletown, CT, to become the Assistant Director of Public Relations at Wesleyan University. While there, he obtained his Masters in English.

He received his JD from the University of Connecticut School of Law, while working part-time at the Hartford Courant and raising three children. He was Editor-in-Chief of the Connecticut Law Review and graduated summa cum laude in 1970, after which he joined Day, Berry & Howard in Hartford.

During these years he also taught law courses at a local community college and was an officer of the Colby Alumni Club. In 1973 he became corporate counsel at Honeywell Information Systems and moved to Natick. Soon thereafter, he left corporate law and established his own practice in general law, which allowed him to zealously represent his clients, sometimes for little pay but nearly always for great gratitude.

For many years he was the Chairman of the Natick Historic District Commission. He was very active in the Natick Bicentennial Celebration planning. He served as Director of the Natick Historical Society Museum and was a Natick Town Meeting member, member of the Natick Law Department Review Committee, and a member of the Regional Vocational-Technical High School Committee.

David will be best remembered by those who knew and loved him for his devotion to family and friends, dedication to his clients, love of golf, family camping, and Cape Breton. He is survived by his wife Patricia, daughter Bonnie Pomeroy of Dover, New Jersey, daughter Shelly McConnell and her husband Paul of West Kingston, Rhode Island, son Scott Marr and his wife Barbara of Falmouth, Maine, and eight wonderful grandchildren, Rachel, Becky, James, Emma, Hannah, Jacob, Kiersten, and Nathan, sister-in-law Nancy Marr of East Patchogue, New York, wife of his late brother Robert Marr, brother-in-law Charles (Ted) Houghton and his wife Elizabeth, of Charlton, Massachusetts, and Bert Hille of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and Carey Eggen of Worcester, Massachusetts, and a large and wonderful extended family.

Calling hours will be held 4-7p.m., Thursday, January 30th, at the John Everett Funeral Home, 4 Park Street, Natick, Massachusetts. A Celebration of His Life will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, January 31st, at the First Congregational Church, 2 East Central Street, Natick, Massachusetts.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to “Dr. Hochberg – MGH Cancer Center Inpatient Research”, Massachusetts General Hospital, Yawkey Building 9852, 55 Fruit Street, Boston, MA 02114.
